Box Score JOHNSON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball overcame Johnson State College 52-48 on Friday night, inside of Carter Gymnasium.
Both teams came out slow to start the opening stanza, only scoring a combined 31 points in the first fifteen minutes of play. The teams traded leads twice and knotted things up four separate times before concluding the half tied 21-21.
Maine Maritime came out fast in the second half, scoring nine unanswered points to build a 30-21 lead until a Sarah Voorhis lay-up halted the Mariners. Johnson worked to close the gap tying things up 46-46 with seconds to go, but the Badgers were unable to overcome the Mariners, who shot 9-10 from the line in the final minute to secure the victory and the season sweep.
Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) led the Mariners with a game-high 16 points, six rebounds, three steals and an assist, while teammate
Kristi Willey (Topsham, Maine) grabbed a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Dom Carter-Stanley and Brittany Robertson each tallied 10 points for the Badgers, in the losing effort.
The Mariners improve to 10-12 overall and 7-8 in North Atlantic Conference play, while the Badgers fall to 6-15, and 6-9 in the conference.
Maine Maritime travels to Lyndon State tomorrow to take on the Hornets at 2:00 p.m.
