Box Score JOHNSON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball hung on to defeat Johnson State College on Friday night, 64-58 inside of Carter Gymnasium.
The Mariners hit 3-pointers on four of their first five scores to establish a 14-4 lead with 14:56 remaining in the first half, and went on a 7-2 run capped by a three from Zachary Radcliffe (Rumford, Maine) on their way to a 35-17 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Mariners led by as much as 20 points at the top of the half, but the Badgers chipped away at the lead, closing the gap and even taking the lead with 3:58 remaining. Maine Maritime shot 12-14 from the line in the final five minutes to hang on for the victory and claim the season sweep over the Badgers.
Tyler Gilson (Thomaston, Maine) led the Mariners with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Radcliffe ended the evening with 13 points, and two rebounds. Nick Holt (Ellsworth, Maine) chipped in with 11 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
The Badgers saw three players enter double digits led by Rob Hazard who recorded a game-high 18 points. Demetrius Slade scored 11 points adding eleven rebounds and four assists. Asim Khan rounded out the scoring notching 10 points and grabbing six rebounds.
The Mariners improve to 3-19 overall and 2-13 in North Atlantic Conference play, while the Badgers fall to 3-19, and 3-12 in the conference.
Maine Maritime travels to Lyndon State tomorrow to take on the Hornets at 12:00 p.m.
