Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball fell to Lyndon State, 48-40 on Saturday afternoon, inside of Stannard Gymnasium.
The Mariners jumped out to an early 8-0 lead highlighted by six points from Jillian Perron (Skowhegan, Maine) with 16:06 remaining in the first half. Lyndon State used a 9-1 run to close the Mariner lead to 15-13 with 8:45 remaining, and outscored Maine Maritime 6-4 in the final minutes to tie the game up at 19-19 at the half.
In the second half the two teams battled back and forth until Allison Brown sparked a 15-2 run with 3-pointer, to give the Hornets a 44-33 lead with a little over a minute remaining. Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) hit a 3-pointer to close the lead to 44-36, but Lyndon was sharp from the line to close out the game, and take the victory.
Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) and Maggie McConkey each had 12 points to lead the Mariners. Badeen added eight rebounds, two steals and an assist, while McConkey contributed three rebounds and an assist. Kristi Willey (Topsham, Maine) recorded 11 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
Brown led Lyndon with 11 points, while Aimee Thompson added eight points and seven boards.
Maine Maritime falls to 10-13 on the season and 7-9 in the NAC, while the Hornets improve to 7-16 on the season and 6-10 in conference.
The Mariners will return to action Wednesday night, when they travel to Thomas College.
