Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Thomas College 87-82, on Wednesday night in North Atlantic Conference action.
The two teams fought back and forth in the first half, before the Mariners took a 32-22 lead with 7:14 remaining, following a Jason Hatch (Islesboro, Maine) 3-pointer and a Dylan Stevens (Wells, Maine) layup. The Terriers responded with seven-unanswered points to close the gap, and went on an 11-point run to retake the lead with 3:55 remaining in the half. Stevens hit two from the line in the final seconds to close the Thomas lead to 45-44 heading into the half.
Zachary Radcliffe (Rumford, Maine) hit a three to open up the second half, giving the Mariners a 47-45 lead. The two teams continued to battle back and forth, until the Terriers built an 11-point lead with 9:16 remaining. The Mariners fought back with six-straight points in less than a minute to close the Thomas lead to 73-68. A Hatch 3-pointer at 3:56 remaining closed the Terrier lead to 82-79, but Thomas held on for the win and the season sweep.
Nick Holt (Ellsworth, Maine) led the Mariners with 19 points, three rebounds and three assists, while Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) grabbed a double-double with 16 points and a career and game-high 15 boards. Hatch ended the evening with 14 points, five rebounds and an assist.
Levi Barnes led the Terriers with a game-high 25 points, while Adam Carlsen added 14. Eric Westbrooks contributed 12 points and five rebounds for Thomas, and Justin Murray scored 12 points off the bench.
The Mariners fall to 3-21 overall and 2-15 in the North Atlantic Conference, while the Terriers improve to 11-13 overall and 9-8 in the conference.
Maine Maritime returns to Smith Gymnasium this Saturday afternoon when they host Maine-Farmington for their final regular season game at 1:00 p.m.
