Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer fell to non-conference opponent Bates College on Sunday, 1-0 at Ritchie Field.
Kylie Bradley (Westborough, Mass.) broke up a huge opportunity for Bates early in the game when Julia Rosen broke away on from her defender, preserving the scoreless match.
The Bobcats broke through in the 32nd minute when Rosen snuck a ball, off a corner kick from Maggie Coco, past Mariner goalkeeper Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine).
Maine Maritime had a chance late in the game, when Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) had a breakaway in front of the net, but Bobcat keeper Allegra Sacco beat her by a millisecond to the ball tarnishing the opportunity.
Tori Cooper (Saco, Maine) led the Mariners with two shots, while McConkey was sharp in net for the Mariners making 12 saves. Sacco and Sarah McCarthy combined for the shutout in net for Bates.
The Mariners fall to 1-5 (0-1) overall, and will travel to Maine-Farmington next Saturday, September 26.
