Bengals Overpower Mariners

CASTINE, Maine – Maine-Fort Kent defeated Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer 4-0 on Sunday at Ritchie Field, in non-conference action. 

The two teams battled back-and-forth in the first half, until the 29th minute when Yosselin Berrueco snuck a ball past Mariner keeper Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine), to give the Bengals the 1-0 lead. 

With a little over five minutes remaining in the first half, McConkey made a diving save on a shot from Sam Carapellucci to keep the deficit at one.

Kayla Richards, Marie-Laurance Monta and Katherine Ferland added goals late in the second half to give the Bengals the 4-0 non-conference victory. 

McConkey made 12 saves in net, in the loss for the Mariners, while Michelle Delgadillo earned the win in net for the Bengals.

Maine Maritime Academy (1-1) will travel to Georgia to play Piedmont on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and Berry College on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
