Box Score 2 CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball fell in a doubleheader to Maine-Fort Kent on Sunday, inside of Smith Gymnasium.
Game 1: Maine-Fort Kent 3 – Maine Maritime Academy 0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-17)
The Bengals used an eight-point run in the first set to take the 1-0 lead. The Mariners fought back in the second set, forcing Maine-Fort Kent to call a late time out, but the Bengals persevered and took a 2-0 advantage. Momentum was in Maine-Fort Kent's favor as they took the third set and the victory.
Gillian O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) led all players with 15 kills, while adding nine digs, and two blocks. Melissa Spaulding (Fairbanks, Alaska) chipped in with 25 assists, and two digs, Tess Clark (Spring, Texas) added nine digs and three kills, while Alex McClure (Iron Station, N.C.) grabbed a match-high three service aces.
Brianna Krystek led the Bengals with eight kills, Selina Castro added 20 assists, and Tiara Nolen grabbed a game-high 13 digs.
Game 2: Maine-Fort Kent 3 – Maine Maritime Academy 0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-12)
In game two, Molly Marcotte (Woonsocket, R.I.) sparked a five-point run for the Mariners, but the Bengals came out with the narrow 25-22 victory in set one, and a 25-18 victory in set two. Maine-Fort Kent scored 11-straight points to take the 25-12 victory, and claim both games in the doubleheader.
Clark recorded a game-high 13 kills, while O'Neal added nine kills and six digs. Spaulding added 24 assists, four digs and three service aces, while Coronado Hickman (Houston, Texas) recorded four blocks.
Hope Grace led the Bengals with 10 kills, Castro added 20 assists, and Adriana Gutierrez led all players with 10 digs.
Maine Maritime Academy (1-3) returns to action on September 10th when they travel to Unity College for a non-conference matchup.
