Box Score LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball cruised to a 63-44 victory over Lyndon on Friday night in North Atlantic Conference play, inside of Stannard Gymnasium.
The Mariners jumped out to a commanding 13-2 lead early in the first quarter, highlighted by five points from Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine), and never looked back. Maine Maritime took a 24-9 lead into the second quarter and a 34-19 lead into the intermission.
Maine Maritime outscored the Hornets 15-8 in the third quarter, and took their biggest lead of the game, 62-35, with a little over eight minutes remaining in the game. Lyndon ended the game on a 9-1 run, but the Mariners hung on to pick up the victory.
Megan McLean (Eliot, Maine) and Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) led the Mariners with 14 points each. McLean added five assists, four rebounds and a block, while Felix tallied five rebounds, two assists and a steal. Mackenzie Vosburgh (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) added 10 points, four rebounds and two steals, McConkey recorded eight points, six rebounds, a game-high five steals, three assists and a block and Kristi Willey (Topsham, Maine) chipped in with a team-high seven rebounds, six points and two assists.
Mikayla Hodge led the Hornets with a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Allison Brown added 12 points, an assist and a steal.
The Mariners improve to 6-6 on the season, and 3-3 in NAC play, while the Hornets all to 3-9 overall, and 2-5 in the conference. The Mariners travel to Johnson State tomorrow to take on the Badgers at 1:00 pm.
