Box Score LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Lyndon on Friday night, 68-59 in North Atlantic Conference play.
The Mariners scored seven-unanswered points to start the game, led by five points from Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine). Following three-unanswered baskets, Lyndon tied things up at 12-12 with 12:25 remaining in the first half. The Hornets outscored the Mariners 8-0 in the final seven minutes of the half to take a 32-23 advantage into the intermission.
Maine Maritime continued to battle in the second half, closing the gap to just four points with 5:31 to go, following a three from Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine). Xavier Colbert answered right back with a three for the Hornets to make it 54-47 with five minutes remaining. Lyndon went 12-for-14 from the charity stripe in the closing minutes of the game, to clinch the conference victory.
Dylan Price (Madison, Maine) and Thayer added 14 points apiece to lead the Mariners, while Price pulled down a team-high eight boards and a steal, and Thayer recorded four assists, three rebounds and a steal. Newcomb finished the evening with 12 points, four rebounds and a steal.
Colbert led the Hornets with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds, Eric Vargas and Gabriel Torres tallied 11 points each, and Kevin Love chipped in with 10 points.
The Mariners fall to 3-9 on the season, and 2-4 in conference play, while the Hornets improve to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the NAC. Maine Maritime travels to Johnson State tomorrow for a conference matchup at 3:00 pm.
