Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball picked up their first-ever road win over Colby-Sawyer College 58-53, in North Atlantic Conference play on Friday night.
The Mariners fought back from an early 7-0 deficit, scoring 15-straight points, highlighted by five points from Alex Winchester (Hampden, Maine), to take a 23-20 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter was low scoring as both teams struggled from the floor and only combined for six made field goals. The Mariners took a 32-28 lead into the break.
Maine Maritime kept their four-point lead into the final quarter, but the Chargers tied things up at 4:32 remaining. Megan McLean (Eliot, Maine) sank a three to give the Mariners a 56-52 lead with just 47 seconds left and Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) added two from the line in the closing seconds to secure the victory.
Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) led the Mariners with 23 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while McLean added 15 points, three rebounds and a steal, and Kristi Willey (Topsham, Maine) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, while dishing out three assists and a steal.
Lexi Iannone led the Chargers with 13 points, nine rebounds and an assist and Morgan Fogg tallied nine points, four rebounds and three assists.
The Mariners improve to 10-7 overall and 6-4 in the NAC, while the Chargers fall to 10-7 on the season and 7-4 in the conference. Maine Maritime travels to New England College tomorrow for a 1:00 p.m. NAC matchup.
