Eagles Overpower Mariners

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball fell to Husson University, 74-57 on Saturday afternoon, in North Atlantic Conference play inside of Smith Gymnasium.

The Eagles held a 14-9 advantage after the first quarter, and outscored the Mariners 17-7 in the second quarter to take a 31-16 lead into the intermission.

The Mariners score eight-unanswered points to open up the final quarter, cutting Husson's lead to 53-38, but the Eagles held on to take the 74-57 victory.

Tess Clark (Spring, Texas) led the Mariners with a double-double, tallying 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, while Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) added 14 points, six rebounds and Mikayla Charters (Newport, Maine), Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) and Mackenzie Vosburgh (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) each contributed five points.

Husson's Victoria McIntyre led all players with 25 points, while adding five rebounds. Rebecca Young, Kenzie Worcester and Chandler Guerrette added nine points apiece.

The Mariners fall to 5-6 on the season and 2-3 in NAC play, while the Eagles improve to 7-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference. Maine Maritime will travel to Maine-Farmington on Tuesday, January 12 at 5:30 pm for a NAC matchup.
