Chargers Edge Mariners

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer fell to Colby-Sawyer College, 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference action.

Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) put the Mariners on the board in the 18th minute, with her 10th goal of the season, on an assist from Emily Wyman (Brockton, Mass.).

Colby-Sawyer's Abbie Sansoucy tied the game at 1-1 with a free kick goal in the 72nd minute. Molly MacLure scored back-to-back goals in a 10-minute window, both on assists from Alexis LaPointe, to give the Chargers the 3-1 lead with less than ten minutes remaining.

Allison Boulier (Bangor, Maine) closed the gap to 3-2 in the 87th minute, with her second goal of the season on an assist from Lewis, but the Chargers hung on for the victory.

Colby-Sawyer held a slight edge in shots throughout the game (15-11) and took nine corner kicks to the Mariners' three.

Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) stopped five shots in the loss, while Colby-Sawyers Sam Mitchell tallied three saves in net.

The Mariners fall to 6-6-1 overall and 3-3 in the NAC, while the Chargers improve to 5-8-1 on the season and 4-2-1 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action next Tuesday, October 18 when they host Maine-Farmington in a NAC matchup at 5:00 pm.
