Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Senior Gillian O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) tallied a double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs to lead Maine Maritime Academy volleyball to a 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-13, 25-18) non-conference victory over Colby College, the Mariners first victory over the Mules since 2011.
The Mariners picked up a 25-18 win in set one, but fell 25-20 in a closely contested second set. Maine Maritime came out strong to clinch the victory with wins in the third and fourth sets.
O'Neal added two aces to her 13th double-double of the season. Tess Clark (Spring, Texas) tallied a double-double of her own with a match-high 16 digs and 11 kills, while also adding five blocks, an ace and an assist and Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) picked up a double-double of 27 assists and 10 digs and added a match-high seven aces, two blocks and two kills.
Karolina Serhan led the Mules with 10 kills while adding three blocks and two digs. Emily Moslener tallied a double-double, leading the Mules with 15 digs and 13 assists. Molly Manuel recorded 10 assists, Elizabeth Noyes chipped in with 10 digs, and Paige Hanseen added eight kills and seven digs.
The Mariners improve to 19-7 on the season, while the Mules fall to 5-23. Maine Maritime hits the road for a non-conference doubleheader against Eastern Connecticut State and Keene State at Keene on Saturday, before returning to Smith Gymnasium on Friday, November 4 to host the North Atlantic Conference Semifinals. The Mariners will play the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between Lyndon and Castleton at 6:00 p.m., on November 4.
