CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer fell to Castleton University in a shootout on Sunday afternoon in the North Atlantic Conference Quarterfinals.

Olivia Paquette (Waterboro, Maine) came up big for the Mariners in the 73rd minute when she blocked Makenzi Bellando's shot on the goal line, keeping the game scoreless.

The Mariners got one of their best chances of the game in the 83rd minute when Makayla Lewis' (Purcellville, Va.) slow rolling shot bet the outstretched Castleton keeper and hit the post.

The Spartans tallied the only shot in the first overtime period and both teams tallied three shots in the second overtime, but neither could find the back of the net, sending the game into a shootout.

McConkey ended regulation with five saves, and Castleton's Jessica Binkowski tallied three saves.

Susana DeFrank (Temecula, Calif.) and Castleton's Kiley Baran exchanged good penalty kicks to open up the shootout. Lewis found the back of the net on her try and McConkey came up big with a stop against Katie Sanders, but Kylie Bradley's (Westborough, Mass.) try was tipped just out of net by Binkowski.

Morgan Libby (Brunswick, Maine) beat Binkowski to make it 3-2. Bri DiPhilippo made her penalty kick for the Spartans, while Emily Wyman's (Brockton, Mass.) attempt hit off the post, leaving the shootout tied at 3-3. Dominique Valancius beat McConkey, sneaking a shot to the top left corner of the net, giving the Spartans the 4-3 advantage and shootout victory.

The Mariners conclude their bid at the NAC Championship with a 9-6-2 overall record. The Spartans (9-7-4) advance to take on No. 1 seed New England College on Wednesday in the NAC Semifinals.
