Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball split a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Mariners picked up a 3-1 win over Southern Maine, and fell to the University of New England 3-2, after fighting back from a 2-0 deficit.
Maine Maritime 3 – Southern Maine 1 (25-22, 28-26, 18-25, 27-25)
Gillian O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) led the Mariners with 18 kills, while also adding seven digs, four aces and two assists. Tess Clark (Spring, Texas) added 15 kills, nine digs, two blocks and an assist while Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) tallied a double-double of 30 assists and 11 digs. Adams also added three kills, three aces and a block. Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) led the Mariners with 14 digs and added two aces and an assist.
Jess Williamson led the Huskies with a match-high 20 kills and 13 digs for a double-double. Megan Nilson led USM with 15 digs, and Nicole Schmitz tallied a team-high 25 assists.
University of New England 3 – Maine Maritime 2 (25-17, 25-19, 22-25, 18-25, 21-19)
O'Neal led the Mariners once again with 18 kills, 13 digs, two aces and a block, while Adams grabbed her second double-double of the day with a team-high 25 assists, 11 digs, three kills, three aces and three blocks. Clark added 11 digs, eight kills, three blocks, two aces and an assist and Perez tallied a team-high 14 digs, while chipping in with four aces and an assist.
Erika Sawicki led UNE with 11 kills, seven digs, two assists and a block, while teammate Nikki Mathewson tallied a team-high 14 digs, and Kristen Falcinelli dished out a match-high 35 assists.
The Mariners improve to 13-5 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday when they host Unity College for a non-conference match at 7:00 pm.
