Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. -- Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday afternoon, 88-57, in North Atlantic Conference action inside of Coffin Field House.
The Mariners fought back from an early 5-0 deficit, to take a 7-5 lead following two three-pointers from Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) at 16:23. A Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) three at 14:13 gave the Mariners a 14-9 lead, but the Chargers scored seven-unanswered points to retake the lead (16-14) at 12:16. Back-to-back jump shots from Newcomb and Dylan Price (Madison, Maine) closed the gap to 24-23 with 6:43 to go. Colby-Sawyer outscored the Mariners 21-3 in the final 6:31 of the first half, to take a 45-26 advantage into the intermission.
Colby-Sawyer outscored the Mariners 43-31 in the second half to claim the victory.
Thayer led the Mariners with 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and a steal, Newcomb added 14 points, two rebounds, and two assists, and Sam Meklin (Rockland, Maine) tallied 10 points, seven rebounds, and six blocks. Meklin's six blocks rank him third all-time in a single game in Maine Maritime men's basketball history.
Patrick Coffey led the Chargers with 19 points, nine rebounds, two steals, one assist, and a block, Jourdain Bell and Nate Cook each added 16 points, Dana Bean chipped in with 15 points, and Milani Hicks contributed 12 points for Colby-Sawyer.
The Mariners fall to 1-7 on the season and 0-4 in the NAC, while the Chargers improve to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on December 30 in the first day of the Mariner Classic, when they host SUNY Maritime at 2:00 pm.
