Mariners Cruise to Victory Over Beavers on Senior Night

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball cruised to a commanding 98-63 win over Maine-Farmington on Wednesday night in North Atlantic Conference play, inside of Smith Gymnasium.

The Mariners jumped out to a 13-0 lead at 17:08, led by four early points from each Dylan Stevens (Wells, Maine) and Dylan Price (Madison, Maine). Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) tallied 17 points in the first half alone to lead the Mariners to an impressive 53-23 halftime lead, as Maine Maritime shot 60.6 percent from the floor, 54.5 percent from the beyond the arc and 100 percent from the line in the first 20 minutes of play.

In the second half, the Mariners picked up where they left off, building as much as a 39-point lead with just under five minutes to go in the game, cruising to the conference victory.

Maine Maritime averaged an impressive 54.5 percent from the floor and 43.5 percent from three-point land, while also winning the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Beavers 36 to 26.

The Mariners scored a season-high 98 points, on their way to their first victory over Maine-Farmington since February 19, 2011.

Newcomb ended the evening with 23 points, four assists and two rebounds, Stevens tallied 19 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals and Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) added 18 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Nick Judge (Cushing, Maine) tallied his first career double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds and Price scored 14 points, while pulling down six boards, dishing out a game-high six assists, and recording four steals.

Ryan Camire led the Beavers with 16 points, one rebound and an assist, Nick Hilton added 13 points, two rebounds and two assists and Ryan Rice tallied 12 points, five rebounds and three assists to round out UMF's players in double figures.

The Mariners improve to 5-19 overall and 4-13 in the NAC, while the Beavers fall to 3-21 on the season and 3-14 in the conference. Maine Maritime hits the road to wrap up the regular season against Thomas College on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
