Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) scored a career-high 32 points to lead Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball in a 96-78, North Atlantic Conference loss to Thomas College on Saturday afternoon, concluding their 2015-16 season.
The Terriers used a nine-point run to build a 10-point lead in the first five minutes of play. The Mariners continued to battle, clawing back from a 13-point deficit at 10:53 to close the gap to just four points on two different occasions, but the Terriers went on a 8-3 run to finish out the first half and taking a 45-36 lead into the intermission.
In the second half, the Terriers built a 21-point lead, and never looked back grabbing the 96-78 conference victory.
Newcomb tallied 32 points, on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor and 14-of-17 shooting from the line, while dishing out three assists, two steals and an assist, Dylan Price (Madison, Maine) contributed 12 points, a team-high seven rebounds, and two assists, while Dylan Stevens (Wells, Maine) added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Levi Barnes led the Terriers with 21 points, a rebound, a block and a steal, Tyheem Simon added 15 points and five rebounds, Adam Carlsen and Justin Murray contributed 13 points apiece, and Mike Akanji rounded out Thomas' players in double digits with 12 points.
The Mariners finish the season with a 5-20 overall and record and a 4-14 record in conference play, while the Terriers improve to 13-12 on the year and 9-9 in the NAC.
