Mariners Sail Past Hornets as Dagan Earns 250th Career Win

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball sailed to an impressive 90-56 victory over Lyndon on Saturday afternoon, in North Atlantic Conference action inside of Smith Gymnasium. With the victory, Maine Maritime's head coach Craig Dagan earned his 250th career win with the Mariners.

The Mariners fought back from an early 6-0 deficit, scoring seven-unanswered points to take a 7-6 lead. The Badgers took a brief 8-7 lead following an Aimee Thompson jumper but the Mariners scored eight-straight to take a 15-8 lead.

Maine Maritime never relinquished the lead, building as much as a 22-point advantage (43-21) at halftime, and cruising to the 90-56 victory.

The 90-point performance is the highest point total for the Mariners since January 31, 2014, against Green Mountain, when the team scored 102 points.

Mackenzie Vosburgh (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) led the Mariners with a career-high 20 points, including six-of-eight shooting from beyond the arc, two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) tallied 16 points, two rebounds and two assists and Kristi Willey (Topsham, Maine) added 12 points, a rebound, an assist and a steal.

Thompson and Mikayla Hodge led the Hornets with 16 points each, while Hodge grabbed the double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Mariners improve to 13-7 on the season and 9-4 in NAC play, while the Hornets fall to 4-15 overall and 3-10 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, February 9 when they travel to take on Maine-Farmington at 5:30 pm.
