Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Maine-Farmington on Tuesday night, 58-57 in North Atlantic Conference play.
The Mariners capitalized on eight early turnovers by the Beavers to take as much as a 13-point lead in the first half, and held a 36-27 advantage to enter halftime.
With 12:50 remaining in the game, the Beavers put together an eight-point run, capped off by back-to-back threes to cut Maine Maritime's lead to 48-45. Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) added a layup to extend Maine Maritime's lead to 50-45, but Maine-Farmington scored the next six points to take a 51-50 lead with 4:14 to go.
The Mariners tied things up at 53-53 with 1:50 to go on a Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) free throw, but the Beavers scored five-unanswered points to take a 58-53 lead with just 33 seconds to go. Zachary Radcliffe (Rumford, Maine) used a four-point play to close the gap to 58-57 with 20 seconds to go and the Mariners forced a turnover to regain possession with 11 seconds to go, but the Beavers hung on for the win.
Dylan Price (Madison, Maine) led the Mariners with 12 points, four rebounds, four steals and a pair of assists, and Newcomb and Dylan Stevens (Wells, Maine) added nine points each.
Logan Nichols led the Beavers with 12 points and a pair of assists, while Sean Murphy added 11 points off the bench and Nick Hilton pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Mariners fall to 4-17 overall and 3-11 in the conference, while the Beavers improve to 3-18 on the season and 3-11 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday, at Castleton University for a 7:30 p.m. NAC matchup.
