Box Score FORT KENT, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer fell to the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Sunday afternoon, 3-0 in non-conference play.
The Bengals opened up the scoring at 8:11 when Marie-Laurence Montagne found teammate Sherifatu Sumaila in front of the net to make it 1-0.
Susana DeFrank (Temecula, Calif.) registered the Mariners' best scoring chance of the afternoon, on a strong shot following a corner kick in the 22nd minute, but Bengal keeper Valentina Green collected the save, preserving the shutout.
Jennifer Cudjoe converted on a penalty kick in the 76th minute, and Sumaila added her second goal of the game late in the second half to give the Bengals the 3-0 victory.
Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) tallied 11 saves in net for the Mariners, while Green stopped all two shots she faced for the Bengals.
The Mariners fall to 2-2-1 on the season, and will return to action next Saturday, September 17 at Wheaton College in Massachusetts.
