Box Score JOHNSON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball picked up a 69-51 victory over Johnson State College on Friday night, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.
The Mariners outscored the Badgers 27-13 in the opening quarter, led by nine points from Caitlin Kane (Wilton, Maine) and six points from Megan McLean (Eliot, Maine). The Badgers battled back to outscore Maine Maritime 13-8 in the second quarter, cutting the Mariners' lead to 35-26.
After nearly three scoreless minutes to open up the third quarter, the Mariners went on a 10-3 run to build a 45-29 advantage at 4:46. Maine Maritime took their biggest lead of the game (66-45) in the fourth quarter with 3:16 to go, following a six-point run to secure the 69-51 victory.
Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) led the Mariners with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal, McLean scored 16 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc, and pulled down three rebounds, and Kane added 10 points, a game-high five assists, four rebounds, and two steals. Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) led all players with a season-high 10 rebounds.
Johnson State's Domonique Carter-Stanley led all players with 20 points, while also adding four rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
The Mariners improve to 11-9 overall and 7-6 in the conference, while the Badgers fall to 9-10 on the season and 6-7 in NAC play. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Lyndon for a 3:00 pm NAC matchup.
