LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Lyndon State College on Saturday afternoon, 78-54 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.

The Mariners took an early 2-0 lead following a basket from Tyler Gilson (Thomaston, Maine) at 17:34, but the Hornets hit back-to-back threes to take a 6-2 lead at 14:48 and outscored the Mariners 39-22 in the opening half.

Maine Maritime went on a 5-2 run to open up the second half, closing the gap to 41-27, but the Hornets used a seven-point run to build their biggest lead of the game (60-35) with 12:25 to go and held off the Mariners for the victory.

Nick Judge (Cushing, Maine) and Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) led the Mariners with 13 points each, Judge tallied a team-high six rebounds, four assists, and three steals, and Thayer chipped in with three rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block. Gilson and Dylan Stevens (Wells, Maine) added seven points apiece of the Mariners.

Eric Vargas led the Hornets with 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals and Raymond Monroe added 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists.

The Mariners fall to 4-17 overall and 1-13 in the NAC, while the Hornets improve to 8-12 on the season and 7-7 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday, February 10 when they host Castleton University at 5:30 pm inside of Smith Gymasium.
