Women's Cross Country Places Sixth at UMF Invitational

FARMINGTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's cross country placed sixth out of seven teams at Saturday's UMaine Farmington Invitational.

In the first race of the season for the Mariners, junior Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) finished 42nd overall out of 85 runners to lead Maine Maritime, running the 5K course in a time of 25:09.3. Sophomore Abigail L'Abbé (Topsham, Maine) finished 50th overall with a time of 26:21, followed by freshman Olivia Smith (Skowhegan, Maine) in 59th, junior Alex Allen (Easton, Maine) in 64th and senior Charlette Bradley (Slidell, La.) in 69th place overall. 

New England College's Abby Shafer took first place overall with a time of 19:56, and the University of New England claimed the team victory with five runners in the top eight. 

The Mariners return to action next Saturday, September 9 at the University of New England Invitational at Rotary Park in Biddeford, Maine.
