Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Colby-Sawyer College 92-80 on Saturday evening in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
With the loss the Mariners fall to 1-13 on the season and 0-7 in the conference, while the Chargers improve to 9-4 overall and 6-1 in the NAC. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday, January 19 at Lyndon State College for a 7:30 pm NAC matchup.
The Chargers got on the board first following a Patrick Coffey jumper, but Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) and Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) splashed threes to put the Mariners up 6-2. The two teams exchanged the lead throughout the early part of the first half until the Chargers used an 18-3 run to take a 44-31 lead, and took a 45-32 lead into halftime.
Maine Maritime went on a 9-2 run to open up the second half and closed the Chargers' lead to six (47-41). Another three from DePatsy followed by a free throw from Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) brought the Mariners within four (49-45) with 15:39 to go.
The Mariners stayed within striking distance, closing the gap to just two points with 3:48 remaining, but Colby-Sawyer scored 12-unanswered points to take a 91-77 lead with 27 seconds to go and hung on for the 92-80 victory.
DePatsy led Maine Maritime with 22 points, tying his career-high, six rebounds, three assists and a steal, while Newcomb added 16 points and a rebound and Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) chipped in with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Austin Boudreau led the Chargers with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists, Erik Olson added 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal and Jourdain Bell tallied 15 points, six steals, four rebounds, and two assists. Taylor Grande contributed 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal and Patrick Coffey added 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Mariners shot 46.9 percent from the floor, while the Chargers shot 46.5 percent. Colby-Sawyer held a 41-28 edge in rebounds.
