Polar Bears Snap Mariners' Streak

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer fell to Bowdoin College, 5-0 on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Ritchie Field.

The loss snaps the Mariners six-game winning streak and five-game shutout streak and drops the team to 7-2 overall, while the Polar Bears improve to 5-3-1. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, October 6 at Husson University for a crucial North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup at 1:00 pm.

Tess Huckaby's corner kick found Julia Patterson, who headed the ball in net for Bowdoin's first goal of the game in the 18th minute. The visitors struck again in the 42nd minute this time when Julia Adelmann shook off her defender and won the one-on-one battle with Maine Maritime keeper Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) to send Bowdoin into halftime with a 2-0 lead. 

Bowdoin added a goal early in the second half to take a 3-0 advantage, and Adelmann added her second goal of the game in the 55th minute. Penny Rocchio capped off the scoring for Bowdoin in the 74th minute.

Susana DeFrank (Temecula, Calif.) and Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) logged Maine Maritime's two shots on goal. 

Conway ended the evening with eight saves in the loss, while Sabrina Albanese earned the victory for Bowdoin making two saves in just over 67 minutes of play.

The Polar Bears held a 17-3 advantage in shots, and took 11 corner kicks while the Mariners took none.
