Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to UMaine-Farmington 85-66, on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Dearborn Gymnasium.
With the loss the Mariners conclude their season at 5-20 overall and 4-14 in the NAC, while the Beavers improve to 13-12 on the season and 11-7 in conference play with the win. UMaine-Farmington claimed the fifth seed in the upcoming NAC Tournament.
Maine Maritime's Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) hit a three to open up the scoring but the Beavers answered with eight unanswered points to take an 8-3 lead. Newcomb hit threes on back-to-back possessions to keep the Mariners within striking distance but the Beavers began to pull away and took a 44-35 advantage into halftime.
The Mariners cut the deficit to six points twice early in the second half, but UMaine-Farmington went on a 15-0 run to take a 67-46 lead midway through the half and never looked back to claim the victory.
Newcomb and Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) led the Mariners with 18 points each, Newcomb added three rebounds while DePatsy added a team-high eight rebounds and dished out a pair of assists. Andrew Liebert (Plano, Texas) contributed nine points, two rebounds and two assists while both Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) and Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) chipped in with six points. Thayer also tallied seven rebounds, a team-best four assists and a steal.
Milani Hicks led the Beavers with a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds, while also adding three blocks, two steals and an assist. Riley Robinson added 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a steal and Eric Berry contributed 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal. Bill Ruby added a double-double of his own with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding four assists and two steals, while teammate Amir Moss also totaled 11 points and chipped in with five rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Maine Maritime shot 38.7 percent from the floor, while the Beavers shot 41.9 percent. The Beavers also held a 49-35 edge in rebounds.
