Mariners Shutout Beavers in Conference Opener

FARMINGTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer defeated UMaine-Farmington, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Leib Field.

With the victory the Mariners improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in NAC play, while the Beavers drop to 0-6 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Maine Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, September 19 when they host UMaine-Machias at 7:30 pm.

MacKenzie Carter (Ashland, Maine) put the Mariners on the board first in the 14th minute on a pass from teammate Lauren Wood (Vassalboro, Maine). Maine Maritime outshot the Beavers 7-1 in the first half and held a 1-0 advantage at halftime.

Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) added her seventh goal of the season on an unassisted strike in the 66th minute, to give the Mariners a 2-0 lead.

Wood dished out another assist, this time to Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) in the 77th minute and the Mariners cruised to the 3-0 victory.

The Mariners held a 16-8 edge in shots and an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. 

Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) turned away all four shots she faced in the victory for the Mariners, while UMF's Mikayla Cameron tallied nine saves in the loss.
