Women's Soccer Defeats SUNY Canton for Fourth-Straight Shutout

CANTON, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer scored twice in the second half to defeat SUNY Maritime, 2-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon, securing their fourth-straight shutout. 

The Mariners improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the NAC, SUNY Canton falls to 2-6 on the season and 0-2 in the conference. The Mariners return to action when they host Northern Vermont – Lyndon during Homecoming next Saturday, September 29, at 4:00 pm.

After a scoreless first half, where the Mariners led 9-1 in shots, Susana DeFrank (Temecula, Calif.) put the Mariners up 1-0 in the 61st minute, when she snuck her shot from the left of the box over Canton's keeper Allison Wakefield.

Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute, when Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) played a ball ahead to her and Doiron placed the ball perfectly inside the far post.

Maine Maritime's Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) earned the victory in net, making one save, while Wakefield tallied 11 saves in the loss for Canton.

The Mariners held a commanding 27-3 advantage in shots, and took eight corner kicks, compared to SUNY's one.
