Bobcats Overpower Mariners

LEWISTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer fell to Bates College, 2-0, on Tuesday night in non-conference action at Garcelon Field.

The Mariners fall to 1-1 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 1-0. Maine Maritime hits the road to face Massachusetts Maritime on Saturday at 1:00 pm and Nichols College on Sunday at 12:00 pm.

The Bobcats struck first with 11 seconds remaining in the first half, when Emma Lombardo snuck the ball over the head of Mariners' keeper Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.), on a pass from teammate Sarah DiPillo.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 55th minute on an unassisted goal from Caroline Bogue and hung on for the victory.

Allison Boulier (Bangor, Maine) led the Mariners with two shots, both on goal.

Conway stopped 11 shots in the loss for the Mariners, while Katherine Nuckols earned the victory in net for the Bobcats, making three saves.

Bates held a 22-3 advantage in shots and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
