Box Score CANTON, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to SUNY Canton 76-64 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Stan Cohen Court.
How it Happened: The Kangaroos jumped out to a 7-0 lead at 16:26 of the first half, and continued to pull away taking a 41-23 lead into halftime.
The Mariners battled back in the second half and put together a 10-point run to cut Canton's lead to 54-49 with 7:57 remaining. Maine Maritime closed the gap to four points following a basket by Kimani Anderson (Houston, Texas) at 6:46, but the Roos held on for the win.
Inside the Numbers: Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) led the Mariners with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding five assists, a steal and a block.
Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) tallied 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) contributed 13 points, two rebounds, one assist and a steal.
Jordan Stewart led Canton with 18 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Brandon Adkisson and Robert Holliday, Jr. contributed 13 points each. Adkisson added four assists and a rebound, while Holliday, Jr. chipped in with two assists, two steals and a rebound.
Andrew Fitch tallied a game-high 13 rebounds, eight points, five blocks and a steal for the Roos.
The Mariners shot 36.8 percent from the floor and 26.9 percent from three-point land, while the Roos shot 53.8 percent overall and 36.8 percent beyond the arc. Canton held a 33-29 advantage in rebounds.
Up Next: The Mariners fall to 6-5 on the season and 3-1 in the NAC, while Canton improves to 7-8 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, January 8 when they host NESCAC's Bowdoin College at 6:00 pm.
