Mariners Dominate Delhi Fall Invitational

DELHI, N.Y. - Maine Maritime Academy men's swimming finished first out of four teams on Saturday at the SUNY Delhi Fall Invitational in Kunsela Hall Pool. 

The Mariners finished with 615 points, SUNY Delhi placed second with 248, York College in third with 243, and Cazenovia College in fourth with 39 points. 

Meet Highlights:

  • The relay team of Brad Tibbetts (Boothbay Harbor, Maine), Isaac Weaver (Lamoine, Maine), John Markillie (Richland, Wash.), and Jack Valleau (Liberty, Maine) placed first overall in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.15.
  • The Mariners took the top four spots in the 200 yard free, with Markillie placing first overall with a time of 2:03.21, Edward David (Englewood, Fla.) placed second with a time of 2:03.21, Valleau placed third with a time of 2:05.27, and John Gilpin (Portsmouth, R.I.) placing fourth with a time of 2:05.98.
  • Weaver took the top spot in the 50 yard free with a time of 25.28, while Benjamin Mazgaj (Ellsworth, Maine) placed second with a time of 25.92.
  • Maine Maritime took the top four spots in the 200 yard IM with Patrick McEneaney (Suffolk, Va.) finishing first overall with a time of 2:20.78, Tibbetts in second with a time of 2:22.84, David in third with a time of 2:25.20, and Gilpin in fourth with a time of 2:31.07.
  • Valleau claimed the top spot in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.07, while John Egger (Marion, Mass.) finished second with a time of 1:01.28.
  • Markillie finished first in the 100 yard free with a time of 52.77 and McEneaney finished third with a time of 54.37.
  • The Mariners claimed the top four spots in the 100 yard back, Egger placed first overall with a time of 1:06.38, Gilpin placed second with a time of 1:08.92, David came in third with a time of 1:11.17, and Mazgaj took fourth with a time of 1:13.06.
  • Markillie won the 500 yard free with a time of 5:25.72, while Mazgaj placed third overall with a time of 6:33.91.
  • Weaver placed second in the 100 yard breast with a time of 1:07.09, while Tibbetts placed third with a time of 1:12.36.
  • The relay team of McEneaney, David, Valleau, and Egger won the 200 yard free relay with a time of 1:37.99, while the relay team of Gilpin, Ryan Burke (Lyman, Maine), Michael Perreault (Saco, Maine), and Mazgaj placed third with a time of 1:50.95.

The Mariners return to action tomorrow, Sunday November 24, with they travel to Western Connecticut State to swim in a Dual Meet, scheduled for 11:00 AM.
