Men's Cross Country Wins Second Consecutive UMPI Invitational

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country placed three runners in the top five, to claim their second-consecutive title at the UMPI Invitational on Saturday.

Sophomore John Hassett (Castine, Maine) paced the Mariners in his debut with the team, finishing first overall on the 6K course with a time of 19:54.0. Freshman Benjamin Butterfield (Phillips, Maine) made is collegiate debut finishing in third, with a time of 21:50.0, and sophomore Joseph Van Ess (Mechanicsville, Va.) finished fifth with a time of 22:08.0.

Freshman Wiliam Procko (Branford, Fla.) placed eighth in his collegiate debut with a time of 22:47.0 and freshman Isaac Sewell (Bangor, Maine) rounded out the top five finishers for the Mariners in 15th place with a time of 25:06.0.

Maine Maritime Academy claimed first place overall with a total team time of 111:45.0; Thomas College finished in second with a time of 112:38.0, University of Maine at Farmington in third with a time of 121:52.0 and University of Maine at Presque Isle in fourth with a time of 128:38.0

The Mariners return to action next Saturday, September 7 when they travel to Vermont to race in the NVU-Lyndon Invitational at 11:00 am.
