Blue Boosts Mariners Over Broncos

DELHI, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer defeated SUNY Delhi 3-2 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.

The Mariners improve to 4-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the NAC, while the Broncos drop to 4-2-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Monday evening, when they host Unity College for a non-conference matchup at 5:30 pm.

Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) scored her ninth goal of the season in the 13th minute, to put the Mariners up 1-0.

SUNY Delhi's Alexa DuBois evened the game up at 1-1 in the 63rd minute on a corner kick from Sydney Tuysuzian. The Broncos took the lead when Reanen Goodspeed tallied an unassisted goal in the 71st minute, but Maine Maritime's Laura Blue (Brisbane, Australia) found Kelsey Bern (Castle Rock, Wash.) in the 82nd minute to tie the game at 2-2.

The two teams remained deadlocked at 2-2 at the end of regulation, and entered double-overtime after a scoreless overtime period.

Blue tallied the game-winner in the 105th minute, on an unassisted goal, to lift the Mariners to victory.

Maine Maritime's Emily Conway (Charleston, S.C.) tallied six saves in the victory. Rachel Scoones stopped six shots in nearly 60 minutes of action in net for the Broncos while Jessica Shultis collected four shots in the first half.

The Mariners outshot the Broncos 20-11 and took seven corner kicks, while the Broncos took four.
