Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to SUNY Canton 69-62 on Friday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play inside of Smith Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The two teams battled closely in the first half and the Mariners took a slight 33-30 advantage into halftime.
Maine Maritime carried a five-point lead into the final five minutes, but the Roos went on an 11-point run to build a 64-58 lead with 2:09 to play and held off the Mariners for the victory.
Inside the Numbers: Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) and Riley MacLeod (Bucksport, Maine) led the Mariners with 12 points each, DePatsy contributed three rebounds, three assists and a steal, while MacLeod added five rebounds, and two assists. Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) and DeMerrill Levy (Houston, Texas) tallied 10 points each, Jorgenson added five rebounds, four assists and a steal and Levy recorded five rebounds, four steals and three assists. Kimani Anderson (Houston, Texas) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, to go with eight points, two assists and two steals.
Quran DuBois led the Roos with a game-high 20 points, and added six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal, Danny Santana contributed 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and a block and Andrew Fitch chipped in with 11 points, nine rebounds, four blocks, an assist and a steal.
Maine Maritime shot 37.3 percent from the floor and 26.7 percent from behind the arc, while the Roos shot 47.5 percent overall and 30.8 percent from three-point land. Canton held a 43-35 edge in rebounds.
Up Next: The Mariners fall to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in the NAC, while the Roos improve to 6-8 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. The two teams will square off again tomorrow, Saturday, January 11 inside of Smith Gymnasium at 3:00 pm for the Second Annual Jimmy Card Celebration of Life Game.
