Box Score PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to UMaine-Presque Isle 86-78 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Wieden Hall.
How it Happened: The Owls jumped out to an early double-digit lead, but the Mariners fought back to close it to 20-18 with 12:06 to go in the first half. UMPI went on a 7-1 run in the final minutes of the first half, but a three-point jumper from Malachi Reincke (Houston, Texas) closed the Owls' lead to 49-38 entering halftime.
The Owls scored 12-unanswered points early in the second half to lead 63-40 at 16:05, and led by 25 with 14:02 remaining but the Mariners continued to fight and outscored the Owls 13-2 late in the half to close the gap to 78-71.
The Mariners cut the deficit to six points with under a minute to go, but the Owls were went 4-of-4 from the line in their last two possessions to close out the win.
Inside the Numbers: Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) led the Mariners with 21 points, including going a perfect 9-for-9 from the line, five assists, four rebounds and two steals. Kimani Anderson (Houston, Texas) and DeMerrill Levy (Houston, Texas) tallied 16 points each, Anderson pulled down four rebounds and a steal while Levy contributed four rebounds and an assist and Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) added 14 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Griffin Guerrette led UMPI with a game-high 31 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal, Shyquinn Dix recorded 18 points, nine rebounds, five steals, four assists and a block, while TeVon Hines added 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals. DeAndre Duncombe tallied 11 points, three rebounds and an assist and Will Griffin rounded out the players in double-figured with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.
The Mariners shot 45.5 percent from the floor and 43.5 percent from behind the arc, while the Owls shot 52.5 percent overall and 32.0 percent from three-point land. UMPI held a 35-26 advantage in rebounds.
Up Next: The Mariners fall to 3-13 on the season and 1-5 in the NAC, while the Owls improve to 5-11 overall and 1-7 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday night when they head to Bates College for a non-conference matchup at 7:30 pm.
