Eagles Edge Mariners in Regular Season Finale

BANGOR, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball fell to Husson University 52-49 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Newman Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

Up Next: With the loss the Mariners conclude the regular season at 20-5 overall and 12-2 in the NAC, while the Eagles end their regular season at 17-8 overall and 14-0 in the conference.

Both teams will await the NAC's official announcement of the championship tournament seedings, tomorrow.

How it Happened: The Mariners scored back-to-back baskets to cut the Eagles' lead to 13-9 entering the second quarter and took the lead with 4:02 to go in the half. The Mariners held the Eagles to just four points in the second quarter and took a 21-17 lead into halftime.

Maine Maritime took a 26-17 lead with 6:34 to play in the third but the Eagles went on a six-point run to close the gap to three, 26-23. The Mariners rebuilt a seven-point lead but Husson continued to battle back and tied the game at 30-30, entering the final quarter.

The two teams exchanged baskets early in the fourth but a pair of free throws from Samantha Mason (Lamoine, Maine) with 4:26 remaining gave the Mariners a 49-48 edge. The teams battled closely in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, and Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) made a pair from the line with seven seconds to go to tie the game at 49-49. Husson's Bailey Donovan capitalized on a three-point play in with five seconds to go and the Mariners came up short in the final seconds.

Inside the Numbers: Plissey led the Mariners with a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds and also added three assists and a block.

Donovan led the Eagles with a double-double consisting of a game-high 21 points and a team-high 13 rebounds, to go with two blocks and a steal, while Megan Peach contributed 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and a two blocks.

The Mariners shot 30.9 percent from the floor and 30.8 from three-point land, while the Eagles shot 27.7 percent overall and 27.8 percent from beyond the arc. Maine Maritime held a 43-41 edge in rebounds.
