Badgers Hold Off Mariners

JOHNSON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to Northern Vermont University-Johnson 62-56 on Sunday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Carter Gymnasium.

How it Happened: The two teams battled closely to start the first half, but the Badgers began to slowly build a lead and carried a 28-16 advantage into halftime.

The Mariners went on a seven-point run to open up the second half and cut the Badgers' lead to five, 28-23, with 16:56 to play but NVU-Johnson took an 18-point lead with 6:25 remaining and held on for the win.

Inside the Numbers: Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) scored a game-high 17 points, to go with five rebounds, three assists and a steal to lead the Mariners, while Kimani Anderson (Houston, Texas) contributed 11 points, two rebounds, two steals and an assist and Andrew Liebert (Plano, Texas) chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds and an assist.

Ayodeji Shokeye led the Badgers with 14 points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist, while Robert Dubose added 10 points, six steals, three rebounds and two assists.

The Mariners shot 42.6 percent from the floor and 25.0 percent from three-point land, while the Badgers shot 44.6 percent overall and 20.8 percent from beyond the arc. NVU-Johnson held a 36-21 advantage in rebounds.

Up Next: The Mariners fall to 4-18 on the season and 2-9 in the NAC, while the Badgers improve to 6-16 overall and 4-7 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday, February 14 when they head to Thomas College for a 7:30 pm matchup.
