Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's volleyball beat NVU-Lyndon 3-0 (25-8, 25-6, 25-9) in a conference matchup Sunday morning.
How it Happened: Maine Maritime relied on their strong hitters to carry them to a 3-0 win against NVU-Lyndon, hitting .404 on the day. In the first set the Mariners used an eight-point run along with 12 kills to claim a 25-8 win. In similar fashion, the Maine Maritime went on an early nine-point run to win 25-6 in the second set. The third set proved to be competitive early on until the Mariners went on a nine-point run to extend the lead 16-7 on serving from Hunnie Zuber-Stephens (Lubbock, Texas). The Mariners went on another nine-point run to close out the third set, claiming a 3-0 victory against the Hornets.
Inside the Numbers: Maine Maritime was led by Rachel Melampy (Marshfield, Mass.) with a game-high 11 kills, five digs, and one ace. Katie Albritton (Hutto, Texas) added a game-high 22 assists, four digs, three aces, and one kill. Sydney Rich (Williamsburg, Va.) chipped in eight digs and two aces, while teammate Grace Jennings (Upper Kingsclear, Canada) chipped in five kills, four aces, and one dig.
The Hornets were led by Kersene Austinville with five kills and Charlotte Morris with seven assists.
Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 12-6 overall and 6-0 in conference, while NVU-Lyndon falls to 0-20 overall and 0-7 in conference. The Mariners return to action on Wednesday, October 20 when they travel to Bangor, Maine to face Husson University at 7:00pm.
