Box Score BANGOR, Maine – Maine Maritime women's volleyball beat Husson University 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 26-24) in a conference matchup on Wednesday night.
How it Happened: The Mariners utilized their strong hitters to overpower the Eagles. Maine Maritime won the first two sets in similar fashion, totaling 13 kills on .478 hitting to claim the 25-13 win in the first set and recording 10 kills to win the second set. The third set proved to be more competitive due to Husson's spark in offense. In the back-and-forth set, the Mariners secured the 26-24 victory, recording one more kill than the Eagles.
Inside the Numbers: Rachel Melampy (Marshfield, Mass.) led the Mariners with 19 kills, ten digs, one ace, one assist, and half a block. Katie Albritton (Hutto, Texas) chipped in 27 assists, six digs and two kills, while Sydney Rich (Williamsburg, Va.) led the Mariner defense with 14 digs, one ace, and on assist.
Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 13-6 overall and 7-0 in conference, while Husson University falls to 6-15 overall and 3-4 in conference. The Mariners return to action on Saturday, October 24 when they travel to play UMaine-Presque Isle at 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
