Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's volleyball defeated UMaine-Presque Isle 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Quarterfinal matchup.
How it Happened: The Mariners jumped to an early 5-0 led, with five straight points in the beginning of the first set. They used that momentum throughout the set, totaling 15 kills, hitting .375 as a team, and going on another five-point and six-point run to close out the set, 25-10. In the second set, the Mariners used a seven point run late in the set to pull away from the Owls, winning 25-13. Maine Maritime used an 11-point run in the third set, off of serving from Sydney Rich (Williamsburg, Va.) to close out the set and claim the 3-0 victory over the Owls.
Inside the Numbers: Katie Albritton (Hutto, Texas) led the Mariners with a game-high 25 assists, ten digs, two aces, one kill, and one block. Rachel Melampy (Marshfield, Mass) totaled a game-high ten kills, ten digs, and two aces, while Rich chipped in a game-high 13 digs and two aces.
Kaya Amoroso led the Owls with seven assists and four digs, while teammate Paige McArthur chipped in four kills, and six digs.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 17-6 on the season and advance to the NAC Semifinal. Maine Maritime will face the second seeded NVU-Johnson tomorrow, Sunday, October 31 at 12:00pm in Smith Gym.
