Box Score CASTINE, Maine - Senior MacKenzie Carter (Ashland, Maine) scored in the 89th minute to lift Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer over Husson University 2-1 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Semifinal matchup on Sunday afternoon, at Ritchie Field.
How it Happened: The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when Shannon Dowd snuck the ball into the back of the net past Maine Maritime's goalie Bess MacArthur (Castine, Maine).
Husson held onto that lead until freshman Emma White (New Sharon, Maine) headed in a ball off the foot of Carter in the 48th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
After a number of chances by both teams, Carter placed the game-winner in the top corner of the net over the outstretched hands of Husson's Shie Smith, to give the Mariners the 2-1 victory.
Inside the Numbers: The Eagles held a narrow 10-8 advantage in shots, while the Mariners held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
MacArthur stopped two shots in net for the Mariners to earn the win, while Husson's Shie Smith collected four saves in the loss.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 10-6 overall and advance to the NAC Championship next Saturday, November 6, when they will host the NAC West Division Champion, Cazenovia College, on Ritchie Field. The Eagles conclude their season at 11-5-2.
