Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's volleyball defeated NVU-Johnson 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Semifinal matchup.
How it Happened: Maine Maritime started the first set with four straight points to spark their offense. As the set continued, it proved to be competitive until the Mariners closed it out with an ace from Hunnie Zuber-Stephens (Lubbock, Texas). The Mariners offense overpowered the Badgers in the second set, totaling 13 kills as a team, hitting on a .550 clip to claim the 25-9 win. In the third set, Maine Maritime went on two seven-point runs to lift over the Badgers and Rachel Melampy (Marshfield, Mass.) ended the match with a kill to claim a 3-0 victory.
Inside the Numbers: Melampy led the Mariners with a game-high 14 kills, eight digs, three assists, and one ace. Katie Albritton (Hutto, Texas) chipped in a game-high 32 assists, six digs, and three kills, while teammate Sydney Rich (Williamsburg, Va.) recorded a game-high 11 digs, three assists, and two aces. Grace Jennings (Upper Kingsclear, Canada) totaled six aces and two digs on the night.
Vanessa Chavez and Christina Batham led the Badgers with four kills each, while Mason Lores chipped in five assists, three digs, and one kill.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 18-6 on the season and advance to the NAC Championship. Maine Maritime will face the winner of SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi on Saturday, November 6 at 12:00pm in Smith Gym.
