Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's volleyball beat UMaine-Presque Isle, 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-10) in a conference matchup Wednesday evening.
How it Happened: Maine Maritime's quick starts and strong hitters led them to a 3-0 victory over UMaine-Presque Isle. In the first set, the Mariners jumped to a quick start, scoring six straight points off of serves from Sydney Rich (Williamsburg, Va.). In the second set, the Mariners started off strong again, scoring eight straight points and recording 16 kills. Maine Maritime used that momentum to carry them through the third set, winning 25-10.
Inside the Numbers: Rachel Melampy (Marshfield, Mass.) led the Mariners with game-highs of 22 kills on .581 hitting and 15 digs, along with one assist and one ace. Katie Albritton (Hutto, Texas) tallied a game-high 35 assists, five digs, one kill, and one ace, while Rich recorded 10 digs and three aces.
Alexis Engel led the Owls with seven digs, five kills, and one ace, while Hailey Kelly recorded eight assists, six digs, and two aces.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 8-6 overall and 3-0 in conference, while the Owls fall to 2-9 overall and 1-1 in conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, October 9 when they host Husson University at 2:00 pm in Smith Gym.
