Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's volleyball beat Husson University, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 26-24) in a conference matchup Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened: The Mariners controlled the first two sets, winning 25-15 and 25-17 with 13 and 12 kills respectively. In the third set, the teams battled closely in a back-and-forth match. After a timeout called by Maine Maritime, down by three points, the Mariners went on a four point run to spark their offense again. After two more Mariner runs, Riley Sullivan (Wilmington, Del.) ended the match with a kill to secure a 26-24 victory over the Eagles.
Inside the Numbers: Rachel Melampy (Marshfield, Mass.) helped lead the Mariners with a game-high 17 kills, nine digs, an ace, and half a block, while Katie Albritton (Hutto, Texas) chipped in game-high 38 assists, three digs, and one kill. Sydney Rich (Williamsburg, Va.) led the Mariners defense with a game-high 16 digs, two aces, and one assist.
Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 9-6 overall and 4-0 in conference, while Husson falls to 3-13 overall and 1-3 in conference. The Mariners return to action on Saturday, October 16 when they host NVU-Johnson and UMaine-Fort Kent starting at 10:00 am.
