Mariners Land Four Players in Double-Digits as They Cruise Past Nor'Easters

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's basketball beat the University of New England (UNE), 82-68 Monday night in a non-conference matchup.

How it Happened: Malachi Reincke (Houston, Texas) opened the scoring by splashing a three pointer as the Mariners jumped to an early 10-3 lead against the Nor'Easters. That lead never wavered throughout the game as the Mariners continued to extend their lead to 25-9 with 9:46 remaining in the first half. The University of New England battled back late in the first half, entering the intermission with a score of 38-30.

UNE came out strong in the second half, cutting the Mariners lead down to 3, with 14 minutes left in the game. The second half remained tight throughout the remainder of the game as the lead only entered back into double digits once. The Mariners closed the game out with an array of free throws from Cameron Gerlach (Henderson, Tennessee), Reincke and Markus Ramirez (Colorado Springs, Colorado) to secure the 82-68 victory.

Inside the Numbers: Reincke paced the Mariners with 23 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Gerlach notched a triple-double with 12 points, 11 assist, and 12 rebounds, along with three blocks. Ramirez also was in double figures again with 23 points, including five three-pointers, while Carter Rubin (Littleton, Colorado) recorded his first career double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds, in addition to a steal and assist.

UNE was lead by Ray Evans who tallied 20 points, six rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block. Ric Castillo added 16 points, nine rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and one assist, while Michael Quinn came off the bench adding 13 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

The Mariners shot 45.8% from the hardwood and 37.5% from beyond the arc, while UNE shot 35.1% from the floor and 22.9% from three point land.

Up Next: The Mariners record their first win of the season at 1-3 overall, as the Nor'Easters fall to 0-4. Maine Maritime returns to action when they host Plymouth State on Thursday, November 18 at 6:00pm.
