Mariners Fall to Beavers

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's basketball fell to UMaine-Farmington, 103-86 Saturday night in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.

How it Happened: Markus Ramirez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) started off the scoring for both teams by splashing a three-pointer and sparking a 8-2 point run for the Mariners. The Beavers went on a six-point run of their own to tie the game 10-10 with 15 minutes remaining in the first half. Both teams continued to trade baskets throughout the remainder of the first half, with the Beavers taking a 49-45 lead going into halftime.

The Mariners came out strong in the second half, scoring nine straight points to regain the lead. The Beavers answered with a ten-point run, taking the lead once again. After trading multiple buckets, the Beavers went on a 20-7 point run, taking a 13 point lead with 3:25 left in the game. UMaine-Farmington continued to hold their advantage over the Mariners, claiming a 103-86 win.

Inside the Numbers: Cameron Gerlach (Hendersonville, Tenn.) led the Mariners with a career high 25 points, along with seven assists and five rebounds. Ramirez added 22 points, two steals, one rebound, and one assist, while Carter Rubin (Littleton, Colo.) chipped in 18 points, four assists, two steals, and two rebounds.

Terion Moss led all scorers with 27 points, in addition to five rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Will Harriman came off the bench with 23 points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal, while Jack Kane added 16 points and 16 rebounds.

The Mariners shot 49.2% from the floor and 34.8% from beyond the arc, while the Beavers shot 50.6% from the hardwood and 29.7% from three point land.

Up Next: The Mariners fall to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in conference, while the Beavers improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in conference. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm against Fisher College in a non-conference matchup.
