Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's basketball beat Thomas College, 74-48 on Saturday afternoon in their conference opener.
How it Happened: After a competitive first quarter, with the Terriers up by one, the Mariners came out in the second quarter on a 24-7 run, sparked by a made layup from Lauren Cook (Charlotte, Maine). The two teams went into halftime with the Mariners holding a 37-21 advantage over the Terriers.
Thomas College tried to cut down the Mariners lead but Maine Maritime continued to hold their advantage. Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) put away the game with nine points in the fourth quarter, claiming a 74-48 victory over the Terriers.
Inside the Numbers: Plissey led the Mariners with 15 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, two assists, and one steal. Cook and Maria Barela (Albuquerque, N.M.) both added 15 points to the mix, while Sydney Echevarria-Briscoe (Englewood, N.J.) chipped in 11 points, four rebounds, and one assist off the bench.
Thomas College was led by Anna Piirainen, who tallied a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. Chantel Ouellette added 11 points, one rebound, and one steal.
The Mariners shot 43.3% from the hardwood and 57.1% from beyond the arc, while Thomas College shot 29.1% from the floor and 14.3% from three point land.
