Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball picked up a 78-63 season-opening victory over UMaine-Farmington on Saturday night inside of Dearborn Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The two teams battled closely for most of the first three quarters, but the Mariners put together a six-point run to close out the third quarter and added four-unanswered points to start the fourth quarter. This run built a 12-point lead (60-48) with 8:49 to play in the game.
Maine Maritime maintained their double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter and picked up the 78-63 win.
Inside the Numbers: Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) led the Mariners with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, while also collecting four steals, three blocks and an assist. Kali Barber (Tampa, Fla.) tallied 10 points, three rebounds and an assist in her collegiate debut with the Mariners. Lauren Cook (Charlotte, Maine), Claire Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.), Samantha Mason (Lamoine, Maine) and Holly Reeder-Morning (Kingston, Mass.) chipped in with eight points each.
McKenna Brodeur led the Beavers with a double-double of her own. Brodeur tallied a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with 10 points, three assists and a steal.
Maine Maritime shot 42.9 percent from the floor and 21.7 percent from three-point land, while the Beavers shot 36.4 percent overall and 25 percent from behind the arc. UMaine-Farmington held a 50-40 advantage in rebounds, but committed 28 turnovers compared to the Mariners' 19.
