Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball picked up a 71-54 win over UMaine-Presque Isle on Saturday evening inside of Smith Gymnasium.
Prior to the game Maine Maritime Head Coach Craig Dagan honored his senior players: Morgan Boudreau (Benton, Maine) and Samantha Mason (Lamoine, Maine).
How it Happened: After a slow start by both teams, the Mariners jumped out to a 10-0 lead midway through the first quarter and carried a 25-11 advantage into the second quarter. The Mariners maintained their advantage in the second quarter and took a 34-27 lead into halftime.
Maine Maritime held UMaine-Presque Isle to nine points in the third quarter and cruised to the 71-54 win.
Inside the Numbers: Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) led the Mariners with a double-double consisting of a career-high 20 rebounds and 13 points, while also recording four blocks and three assists. Lauren Cook (Charlotte, Maine) tallied a team-high 19 points, to go along with three rebounds and Boudreau chipped in with 11 points, five rebounds and a steal. Makenzie Monzon (Orlando, Fla.) led the Mariners with five assists and also added eight rebounds and five points.
Emily Wheaton led the Owls with 23 points, three rebounds and three steals, while Lexi Ireland contributed nine points, four rebounds and a steal.
The Mariners shot 29.9 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from three, while the Owls shot 25 percent overall and 27.8 percent from beyond the arc. Maine Maritime held a commanding 69-38 advantage in rebounds, to set a new single-game record in rebounds.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 2-0 on the season and will travel to Thomas College next Saturday, March 6 to take on the Terriers at 1:00 pm.
